Clean Birth Kit Donations

When I was 25 I ventured on a 3 month, solo, backpacking expedition throughout South East Asia over a university summer break.

This trip saw me travelling throughout many impoverished areas.

At times I travelled (in parts, courtesy of a belching and flatulent camel, pictured) through some very remote villages throughout India and Nepal.

When I saw pregnant women or newborns, I remember wondering what the quality of maternity and newborn care was really like for these women in these parts of the world.

I soon discovered the awful fact that each day around the world, almost 800 mothers die from complications in pregnancy and childbirth.

One third of the total global deaths are in two countries; India (50,000 per annum) and Nigeria (40,000 per annum).

Flash forward to 2015, and my business (known then BodyWise BirthWise) b
ecame a proud supporter of The Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA).

This humanitarian organisation provides Clean Birth Kits to women birthing at home in remote regions of the developing world.

Tragically, we currently live in a world where 295,000 women die every year from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. And close to 2.5 million babies also die within their first month of life.

BKFA is dedicated to improving maternal and newborn health through their Clean Birth Kits program.

They work with Australian and global partners to pack and supply Clean Birth Kits to pregnant women living in rural communities and low-resource settings around the world.

Since 1999, 2.4 million Clean Birth Kits have been made in Australia by BKFA volunteers and distributed by their on-ground partners in over 30 developing countries!

These Kits are given to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants.

They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings. Unfortunately, infection continues to contribute to the poor health outcomes of many mothers and newborns each day.

The Clean Birth Kits are a simple, yet effective way to reduce the risk of infection and support safer childbirth for women in need.

Each item in Kit works to reduce infections at high-risk moments of care during labour, birth and immediately post-birth for the mother, newborn and birth attendant.

It contains 6 disposable components:

Each Kit requires a donation of just $5.00.

This includes all materials in the Kit, costs associated with assembly, warehousing and freight of kits, plus the overall program management inclusive of monitoring and evaluation.

The Clean Birth Kits are also environmentally friendly! Both the plastic bag and the plastic sheet are biodegradable in microbe rich environments, such as landfill.

By 2019, thanks to the ongoing support and donations of my clients and online store customers, my business was able to become a proud partner of Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA).

Now in 2022, for every Clean Birth Kit donated by customers I match this donation one-for-one!

So please consider adding this simple, but extremely worthwhile donation to your order as you go through the Checkout page. Thank you!
